Free Spirit

The first flight of Funkologie.

The name is chosen by the name of the great track of Birtha. This band was the first girl rock band with balls of fire, successfully breaking the male dominated genre. Rosemary Butler (Bass) and Shele Pinnizotto (guitar). In 1967 they came together again along with Sherry Hagler (Keyboard) and Liver Favela (Drums). Liver gave this track an extra kick. Amazing track. — Rosa King was an American jazz and blues saxophonist/singer who made her fame in Amsterdam and recorded many albums under a variety of labels. Here a hot track with her dutch band „Upside Down“ from 1974.

Paper Planes (DFA Remix) by the british musician M.I.A. from her second studio album, Kala (2007). The song was written by M.I.A. and Diplo. The song’s backing track is a sample of the 1982 song „Straight to Hell“ by The Clash. A very funky mix, that’s why loved it. — Hardkandy’s impressive debut long player, eventually recording with local vocalist Sean Clarke, Russ Porter (Limp Twins), Lo Fi Allstars, Will Quantic and legendary folk prophet Terry Callier.

Steve Gray was a great composer, he worked during the 70s with Quincy Jones, Henry Mancini, Michel Legrand, Lalo Schifrin, Peggy Lee, Sammy Davis Jr and John Barry. Here the great theme for grandfather. French Chis Joss is a multi-instrumentalist and record produce. His music ranges is from funk to electronica and tracks excerpted from his releases are featured in movie trailers. — Rose Ann Dimalanta, a.k.a. R.A.D stands for outstanding grooves. She joined for example Prince and his band, the New Power Generation, for his Musicology tours in 2003 and 2004. — We like also Charles Bradley an American funk/soul/R&B singer, signed to the Daptone Records label under the Dunham Records division. Big Light was a german band with their own mix of pop, funk and soul. Pop2000 was a great album back in the 90’s. Enjoy …
