Always cool and surprising—this perfectly describes Gelale’s mixes. His impeccable sense of sound shines through in every Cadence release. Choosing just one of his stellar mixes is challenging, but the surprising blend of tracks showcases his exquisite taste. Some tracks particularly stand out at the top.
Notably, Supersoul from Hannover combines urban funk and soul grooves with German lyrics in their self-written songs. Their instrumental track, “Dem Funk Sei Dank,” is a standout from the album. The rare Northern Soul 45 by Carl Hall is another gem, along with “Blue Trane,” written by John Coltrane and recorded by pianist Cedar Walton in 1975.
My highlight is undoubtedly General Crook’s track “What Time It Is,” a 1971 45’s A and B side classic. Thanks to Gelale for this exceptional contribution.
